Men's Basketball No. 1 in CA Average Home Attendance
The Aztecs are the three-time defending Mountain West regular-season champions.
SDSU drew 244,190 fans to Viejas Arena last season and sold out every game with the lone exception being its first-round NIT game vs. IPFW. The Aztecs and Mastodons played in front of 8,324 fans three days after learning the postseason tilt would be played on Steve Fisher Court. SDSU went on to sell out NIT home match-ups vs. Washington and Georgia Tech before heading to Madison Square Garden for the semifinals.
On a national scale, the Aztecs ranked 29th in average home attendance, down two spots from its No. 27 perch that it landed on the last three years. SDSU overall attendance (244,190) ranked 18th among all Division I schools.
Looking back at schools from the Golden State, the Aztecs found themselves ahead of the pack with the next closest team, California, sitting at No. 42 with an average home attendance of 10,182. UCLA ranked third in the state and 60th overall (8,073), and was followed by Fresno State, which was the last California team ranked in the top 100, at No. 84 (6,296).
SDSU also found itself among the leaders in attendance for all games regardless of location (home, away, neutral) as 385,642 fans watched the Aztecs over their 38 games. That figure ranked 30th nationally, first in the Mountain West, and third among West Coast teams behind Arizona (No. 23) and Utah (No. 26).
The Aztecs enter 2016-17 having won an average of 26 games the last 11 seasons, all of which have ended in postseason tournament appearances. The Aztecs, who have won a Mountain West-high 10 conference titles, will enter the upcoming campaign as the three-time defending regular-season champions. In the last three years alone, SDSU has averaged 28.7 victories, including a 28-win effort in 2015-16.
