San Diego State University Emergency Services will offer a series of emergency preparedness events throughout the 2016-2017 academic year.  The events are open to SDSU faculty, staff and students and will cover a range of life-saving topics and skills.

The first event is a free lunch-and-learn session offering CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) instruction in partnership with San Diego Project Heart Beat.

Cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in America. According to the American Heart Association, when a person experiences cardiac arrest, their chances of survival can double or triple if they receive CPR in the first few minutes after cardiac arrest.

The CPR/AED training session will provide tips to help save a victim of cardiac arrest and explain the difference between cardiac arrest and a heart attack.

Attendees will learn how to perform "compressions-only" CPR and how to use an AED. However, this training is different than CPR certification and attendees will not become CPR certified.

The training will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.  in the Templo Mayor room at the Aztec Student Union.  The training is free to all SDSU faculty, staff and students.  The first five people who register and attend the training will receive a gift card courtesy of Aztec Shops.  Click here to register.

Future emergency preparedness events will be announced throughout the semester.
