New CEO of Aztec Shops Named

Todd Summer was appointed to the positions of CEO of Aztec Shops and associate vice president of Business and Financial Affairs, effective Jan. 1, 2017.

Summer joined Aztec Shops in June 2004 as associate director of Course Materials, and moved into the position of director of Campus Stores in November 2007. At Aztec Shops, Summer and his team have led the college store industry with early introduction of print rental and digital textbook programs. He has also been overseeing the SDSU licensing program.

"Todd's leadership and innovative spirit as director of Campus Stores is exactly what we were looking for in a new CEO," said Tom McCarron, SDSU’s vice president for Business and Financial Affairs & CFO. "We are pleased to have a well respected professional who is already embedded in the Aztec family take on this important campus role."

Summer aims to continue providing the quality products and services Aztec Shops is known for.

"I am grateful to our retiring CEO, Donna Tusack, for her leadership and inspiration and to the entire staff of Aztec Shops, which lifts me and the organization up every day," Summer said. "We will continue to do our part in meeting the university's strategic vision."



Todd has been very active in the college store industry and has served on many boards, including the National Association of College Stores where he was a past president, and the Collegiate Retail Alliance and RATEX Business Solutions, a systems provider for the college store industry.

Prior to coming to SDSU, Summer had various roles at other retail establishments, including Macy’s and Kids ‘R’ Us. He worked for a national promotional marketing agency and was general manager of a casual dining restaurant.

Summer is an alumnus of Boston University, having received his bachelor’s degree in business administration (marketing) in 1986.

The search committee was chaired by Jessica Rentto, and included Megan Collins, Jamie Miller, Seth Mallios, and Jennifer Lakin.
