Student Organization Spotlight: CNSA
The California Nursing Students Association mentors future registered nurses and facilitates their entrance into the profession.
Through CNSA, members participate in a number of health-based community events, attend state and national conferences and network with professionals in the nursing field.
CNSA president, Sheryl Warfield, said joining the organization as an SDSU freshman gave her the opportunity to meet other nursing students, get involved in nursing-related activities, make an impact as a leader on campus, and create lifelong friendships.
Is the California Nursing Students' Association open to all majors or is it major specific?
Our organization is open to students studying to earn their bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing.
When it comes to finding new members for your organization, what type of students are you looking for?
We are looking for nursing students who are interested in meeting new people, taking on leadership roles, giving back to the SDSU and greater community, and making nursing school fun.
When are your meetings and is there a membership fee?
Our general meetings are from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every other Monday in the Park Boulevard Suite, Room 141 of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. Our next meeting is Feb. 6. Our membership fee is $50 for a one-year membership and $90 for a two-year membership. Members of the SDSU CNSA chapter are also members of our state and national affiliate organizations, CNSA and the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA), respectively.

Students can visit the SDSU California Nursing Students' Association website to find out more information and sign up for our email blast, so they are always up to date. In addition, students can find us on Facebook at CNSA SDSU Chapter or on Instagram at sdsucnsa.
What kind of activities does your organization plan/attend?
This spring semester, we will host guest speakers from different fields of nursing, help girl and boy scouts earn their first aid badges, table at Explore SDSU, participate in the Aztec Dance Marathon and attend the NSNA national convention in Dallas in April, among other things. All of our events aim to help nursing students excel in college, in the community, and as professional nurses.
Which SDSU faculty have had an impact on your organization?
We would like to give a special thank you to our brilliant faculty advisor, Kristiana Cullum. Besides being an amazing professor, she has so much wisdom to offer our organization. She has a lot on her plate, but always makes the time to assist the board of directors in leading our chapter, and goes above and beyond the call of duty. A fun fact about Kristiana is that she was the president of CNSA when she went to SDSU School of Nursing. Additionally, professor Lisa Concilio has been helping CNSA lead events that help further our nursing students education outside of the classroom for many years. We are so lucky to have such great support from our School of Nursing faculty.
