The Aztec Proud logos will appear on 21 buildings on the San Diego campus throughout the spring semester.
Beginning this week, a new graphic design is going up on buildings all across the San Diego State University campus.

The Aztec Proud logo celebrates the success of The Campaign for SDSU, which has surpassed its $750 million goal. The graphic also represents the commitment of alumni, donors, friends and the campus community to continue supporting SDSU’s excellence.

“The Campaign for SDSU has redefined this university,” said Mary Ruth Carleton, vice president for University Relations and Development. “Our students compete at the highest levels in the academic arena. They are leaders, innovators and change agents on this campus and in their post-graduation lives.”

Campus celebration

For the entire spring semester, 21 buildings on the San Diego campus and four buildings on the Imperial Valley campus will display the Aztec Proud logo. A related event on Monday, Jan. 23, will acknowledge the role that faculty and staff have played in the success of the campaign.

The Aztec Proud campus celebration is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Centennial Walkway, outside Student Services West. All are welcome; doughnuts and cider will be served.

A new identity

Concurrent with the last four years of The Campaign for SDSU, the university has also implemented a strategic plan, Building on Excellence, which supports initiatives crucial to SDSU’s growth and development as a leading national public university.

An increased focus on student success; research and creative endeavors; and engagement with SDSU’s alumni community has strengthened the university. For example, the graduation rate rose to a record 74 percent in 2016, an increase of six percentage points in a single year. And in 2016, SDSU was ranked—for the first time—among the Princeton Review’s Best Colleges.

“The Campaign for SDSU has changed the course and trajectory of our campus forever,” said SDSU President Elliot Hirshman. “Our success in raising more than $750 million for students, faculty and programming sends a powerful message about the commitment, resolve and potential of the SDSU community.”
