SDSU Football Signs 20 to National Letters of Intent
SDSU signs 20 players to increase the class total to 23 student-athletes.
Including the three student-athletes who enrolled at SDSU this semester, the total class is comprised of 23 individuals. The class consists of 13 on offense and 10 on defense. The 23-member class also features 11 from the state of California, four from Texas, two each from Hawai’i and the country of Canada, and one apiece from Florida, Illinois, Nevada and Oklahoma.
SDSU is coming off its second straight 11-3 season and second consecutive Mountain West championship. The Aztecs, who defeated Wyoming, 27-24, in the MW title game and beat Houston, 34-10, in the Las Vegas Bowl, tied a program record with 11 victories and finished the season ranked 25th in both the AP Top 25 poll and Amway Coaches Poll.
Of the 23 signees, 22 are out of high school with one playing one year of community college. Additional signees could be added later.
Of the 13 offensive players, SDSU inked five on the offensive line: Ladji Bagayoko (Saint-Laurent, Quebec, Canada/Bishop Alemany HS, CA), Desmond Bessent (Tampa, Fla./Sickles HS), Dominic Gudino (Chula Vista, Calif./Olympian HS), Delon Jemmott (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Carnegie Schools Riverside HS, CA) and Chris Martinez (Turlock, Calif./Pitman HS). SDSU also signed three wide receivers: Ethan Dedeaux (Las Vegas/Liberty HS), Isaiah Richardson (Palmdale, Calif./Chaminade College Prep) and Kyre Richardson (Norman, Okla./Tulsa Union HS); two running backs: Chance Bell (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs HS) and Kaegun Williams (Cedar Hill, Texas/Cedar Hill HS); two quarterbacks: Cam Roane (Colleyville, Texas/Heritage HS) and Mark Salazar (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS); and a tight end in Shane Coleman (Las Flores, Calif./Tesoro HS).
On the defensive side of the ball, four are defensive linemen: Mark Brown (Forth Worth, Texas/Arlington Heights HS), Shane Irwin (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS), Anthony Luke (Roseville, Calif./American River CC) and Connor Mitchell (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda HS), while three are linebackers: Andrew Aleki (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kamehameha HS), Seyddrick Lakalaka (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou HS) and Caden McDonald (Haslet, Texas/Northwest HS). The final three on the defensive side are defensive backs in Darren Hall (Pasadena, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga HS), Tariq Thompson (San Diego/St. Augustine HS) and Tayari Venable (Moreno Valley, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga HS).
Spring practice for SDSU begins on Feb. 27 with the spring game tentatively set for March 18.
SDSU is accepting new account deposits on 2017 season tickets through the Aztec Ticket Office, while current season-ticket holders can also renew their tickets for the 2017 campaign. Fans can purchase tickets online, over the phone by calling 619-283-7378 or by visiting Qualcomm Stadium's Window E between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT.
SDSU’s non-conference home schedule next year includes games against UC Davis (Sept. 2), Stanford (Sept. 16) and Northern Illinois (Sept. 30). The Aztecs will also play host to Boise State, Fresno State, New Mexico and Nevada in conference games at dates to be determined.
