Student Organization Spotlight: Aztec Baja SAE
The Aztec Baja SAE team designs, builds and races an off-road buggy each year.
Each spring, the team faces international teams in competitions that include a sales presentation, design presentation, acceleration trial, obstacle trial, and a four-hour endurance race.
Aztec Baja SAE engineering manager, Branden Elam, said he joined the team to get hands-on experience with machining. Elam said the highlight of his time with organization was making the final set-up changes as crew chief for a competition last year in which the team won second place in the acceleration trial.
Is Aztec Baja SAE open to all majors or is it major specific?
We accept students of all majors and backgrounds, bringing a diverse range of talents and skills to our project. From finance and marketing to graphic design, there's a place for everyone on the team.
When it comes to finding new members for your organization, what type of students are you looking for?
We look for hard working, driven individuals who want to be part of a team.
When are your meetings and is there a membership fee?
You can always find us in the machine shop on the bottom floor of the engineering building. The membership fee is your hard work and time.

What kind of activities does your organization plan/attend?
We participate in three collegiate events annually as well as many outreach events that educate the community and aspiring college students. Next month, we will hold our Aztec Baja Mixer, which will feature a Q&A panel, food truck, silent auction, live music and the unveiling of our 2017 car.
What impact have SDSU faculty made on your organization?
Our faculty adviser, Mike Lester, is awesome and underappreciated for all of the work he does for his students.
