Student Organization Spotlight: Child and Family Development
The SDSU Child and Family Development Student Organization works with high-risk children and families in diverse settings.
Through the organization, students provide outreach and support to the community through volunteer activities and fundraisers as well as attend educational symposiums, conferences and networking events.
CFDSO president Claudia Ruvalcaba said the organization has positively affected her time at SDSU by helping her to open up and create relationships.
“This organization has brought me some of my greatest friends and has helped me gain new ones through each experience,” Ruvalcaba said. “I hope to continue to lead and help the members in this organization to be the best they can be.”
Is your organization open to all majors or is it major specific?
The Child and Family Development Student Organization is open to all majors. It is very beneficial for students interested in working with children or families.
When it comes to finding new members for your organization, what type of students are you looking for?
This organization is looking for individuals who want to give back to the community. We also believe this organization is a great place to build close relationships among each other. Everyone is welcome to get involved in this organization.
When are your meetings and is there a membership fee?
Our organization has no fees. This semester, our meetings are at 3 p.m. every other Wednesday in the Metzli Room of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

What kind of activities does your organization plan and attend?
Our organization hosts many different events outside of meetings, including organization lunches and volunteer events in the community. We also attend educational symposiums and conferences.
Which SDSU faculty have had an impact on your organization?
The SDSU faculty members that have helped this organization the most have been former advisor Jacki Booth and current advisors Francesca Gallozzi and Heather Jaffe. They really help this organization shine.
