SDSU’s average home attendance ranked 25th nationally, which is a school record and up from its No. 29 ranking from last year. Prior to the 2015-16 season, the Aztecs ranked 27th the previous three campaigns (2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15), which was the program record.
Over the course of the 2016-17 season, Viejas Arena was filled at 98.24 percent capacity. Among the top 88 schools in average home attendance, that figure ranked second in the West only to Arizona (98.40 percent).
Taking a deeper look at the average home attendance among California universities, the Aztecs finished ahead of the likes of UCLA (32nd; 11,183), California (51st; 8,910), Fresno State (81st; 6,586) and Southern California (105th; 4,625).
At the Mountain West level, SDSU also finished first among the conference’s 11 schools. The Aztecs ended the campaign in front of schools such as New Mexico (28th; 11,769), UNLV (39th; 10,120) and Nevada (50th; 8,923).
