The Full Monty
Students from the SDSU School of Theatre, Television, and Film will take the stage April 21-30.
The school's musical theatre MFA and undergraduate students will perform a version that transplants the workers from 1972 England to contemporary Buffalo, New York.
“While the story follows six unemployed men in Buffalo at the start of the 21st century, the show has universal appeal to all genders with its message of camaraderie, body image acceptance, and the underdog coming out on top," said director Stephen Brotebeck, assistant professor of musical theatre. “Our MFA musical theatre students are collaborating with their MFA design colleagues, and a large group of undergraduate performance, stage management, and design majors, to bring together one of the largest casts the Don Powell stage has seen in many years."
The cast is led by SDSU’s MFA musical theatre class of 2018, many of whom had extensive professional performance careers before coming to SDSU. The program is one of only three of its kind in the nation and graduates eight to 10 students every two years.
MFA musical theatre student Leo Yu-Ning Chang, who plays Harold, said "The Full Monty" is a challenging production.
“During the process, we’ve created a tight bond and chemistry between the men onstage, and I think the audience will feel that when they see the show.”

"The Full Monty" runs April 21-30, 2017. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21, and Thursday to Saturday, April 27-29. Matinee performances begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 22 and 23, and on Sunday, April 30, in SDSU’s Don Powell Theatre. General admission tickets are $17, and students, seniors, and active military pay $15. The show is rated R for nudity, and children under six years of age are not permitted.
