The San Diego State University Athletic Department and the university development staff have come together to organize a fundraising effort for Aztec baseball player Chad Bible, who has missed most of the 2017 season due to cancer.

Bible was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin's lymphoma on Jan. 10. Despite the diagnosis, Bible has remained an integral part of the Aztec baseball team throughout his ongoing treatment and continues to inspire his teammates, coaches and Aztecs everywhere.

Bible arrived at SDSU last fall after a stellar season at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, where he led all state junior college players in home runs with 15 and RBI with 61, while hitting .385 over 31 games. His efforts earned him the Big Stick Award as the state's top offensive performer.

He was SDSU's starter in left field in the first five games of the 2017 season and recorded a hit in all five contests, while compiling a .333 batting average. Since then, his time with the team has been limited due to his travel to the Los Angeles area for treatment.

On March 21, Bible made just his second appearance since beginning chemotherapy when he appeared as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth in the contest against No. 8 Long Beach State. He proceeded to double down the right field line to drive home SDSU's final run in the victory over LBSU.

Many Aztec supporters have offered to help Bible and his family with medical costs associated with his treatment. While NCAA rules prohibit fans and supporters from raising funds directly for Bible due to his status as a student-athlete, the athletics department and university are able to do so permissibly.

If you would like to support Bible during this time, please consider making a donation, which can be done by visiting the fundraising page.

Funds collected will be used for medical and treatment-related expenses. Funds raised in excess of the support needed for those expenses will be donated to a charitable cause, per NCAA bylaws.
