San Diego State University was ranked among the best colleges in California for English majors in a list released by Zippia, an online platform designed to help recent college graduates make career decisions.

Zippia looked at comparative data from the National Center for Education Statistics and College Scorecard data from the U.S. Department of Education to determine which schools are best for English majors.

"The Department of English and Comparative Literature is deeply honored by this recognition,” said Michael Borgstrom, chair of English and comparative literature at SDSU. “We've always taken satisfaction—and a certain amount of pride—in offering intellectual and experiential opportunities that are responsive to our students’ evolving interests and needs, spanning fields such as children's literature, LGBTQ studies, and the digital humanities."

Zippia ranked universities based on career results, overall school performance and the percentage of English majors in the graduating class. SDSU came in at No. 7 overall of the 31 institutions considered, outranking traditional powerhouse universities in the state.

The criteria for career results included mean earnings after six and 10 years, as well as the ratio of people who were employed 10 years after graduation. School performance was measured on admission rates, graduation rates, the average cost of attendance and median amount of debt.
