As a public service announcement, San Diego State University is sharing information from the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency regarding cases of hepatitis A, which is spread person-to-person.

While cases of hepatitis A are on the decline nationally, county officials have informed San Diego State University’s Student Health Services, and others, that individuals who are homeless and those who use illicit drugs have been disproportionately affected by an ongoing outbreak in the region.

Given these cases, the county agency is encouraging people to follow proper hygiene and get vaccinated. More information regarding hepatitis A virus infection is included from the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. Please visit the agency’s website for additional information and education in various languages offered.

SDSU’s Health Promotion website provides information on “Using Healthcare Coverage for Vaccinations.”
