The San Diego State University Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) helps students majoring in information systems, computer science, and computer engineering open doors to their future careers.

Through the organization, students learn more about the latest technologies and software, network with industry professionals and make new friendships with like-minded students.

Aashi Jain, president of AITP, said he joined the organization because he wanted to become more involved in the management information systems community and campus overall.

“The highlight of my time with this organization has been meeting peers and professionals,” Jain said. “I have loved working with everyone I have met as they have all had an impact in one way or another.”

Is the Association of Information Technology Professionals open to all majors or is it major specific?

Our organization is open to all majors who want to network with technology-affiliated professionals. It is directed toward information systems, computer science, and computer engineering majors; however, all business majors are welcome.

When it comes to finding new members for your organization, what type of students are you looking for?

We are looking for driven individuals who want to get ahead in their career, make a difference on campus and stand out among their peers.

When are your meetings and is there a membership fee?

Our meetings are every other Monday, with our next meeting taking place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Oct. 2, in the Aztlan Suite in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. There is no membership fee for students.

How can students find more information about your organization?

For more information, students can check out our organization website.

What kind of activities does your organization plan and attend?

We host guest speakers about once a month from IT companies, hold workshops for resume building and interviewing skills, and host informational events throughout the year teaching the students about various technologies and software.

We have an information systems orientation from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 4 in the Page Pavilion in the Student Services East building. This is restricted to information systems majors only, but it is a great opportunity to learn about the benefits of being part of AITP.

Which SDSU faculty member has had an impact on your organization?

Bruce Reinig, chair of the MIS Department, and Bongsik Shin, our organization advisor, have had huge impacts on our organization.
