U.S. News Ranks SDSU Among Top National Universities
SDSU has risen 25 spots since 2012 on U.S. News & World Reports list of Americas Best Colleges.
San Diego State University continues to rise in the U.S. News & World Report‘s annual rankings. The publication ranked SDSU No. 68 among public universities and No. 140 overall among national universities in its America’s Best Colleges list.“San Diego State University’s success in these important rankings is a reflection of the quality education and the outstanding dedication and achievements of our faculty, students and staff.”
SDSU has been gaining ground in the U.S. News & World Report rankings during the last five years, moving up 25 spots from No. 165 among national universities since 2012. The university also gained 22 spots among public universities (No. 90 in 2012).
“San Diego State University’s success in these important rankings is a reflection of the quality education and the outstanding dedication and achievements of our faculty, students and staff,” said SDSU President Sally Roush. “Their commitment to this university creates the foundation for the academic programs that are being recognized in these rankings.”
Outstanding programs
SDSU’s international business program ranks No. 12, up from No. 14 last year.The undergraduate business program and undergraduate engineering program both rank among the top 100 programs in the nation, coming in No. 91 and No. 99 respectively.
Several SDSU graduate programs rank in the top 50 nationally including aerospace engineering (No. 37), audiology (No. 30), clinical psychology (No. 25), health care management (No. 47), nursing midwifery (No. 28), public health (No. 39), rehabilitation counseling (No. 10), speech language pathology (No. 24), as well as the online graduate education program (No. 22).
Graduate programs that rank among the top 100 include education (No. 57), physical therapy (No. 79), social work (No. 58), public affairs (No. 86) and fine arts (No. 59).
Opportunities for all students
U.S. News & World Report also named SDSU one of the top national universities for students graduating with the least amount of debt. SDSU is the No. 7 public school and No. 14 overall university in the nation when it comes to least student debt amount at graduation.According to the data released by U.S. News & World Report, 51 percent of SDSU students graduate with no debt at all, and the average amount of debt at graduation is under $20,000—compared to the national average of $37,172.
In addition, SDSU is among the top 25 educational institutions in the country for ethnic diversity—a point of pride for SDSU, where students from all backgrounds achieve academic excellence.
Recent success
SDSU is nationally recognized for academic excellence and for many outstanding programs that support student success. In the past year, the university was named to Princeton Review’s listing of best colleges—about 15 percent of four-year universities made the list. SDSU also was recognized as a top school for the number of students who study abroad and for its support of military-affiliated students and LGBTQ students.The university recently completed its first comprehensive fundraising campaign, which exceeded its $750 million goal by raising a total of $815.2 million, ensuring future support for scholarships, programs, faculty, students and staff.
