More than 93,000 Apply to SDSU
SDSU sets a new record for undergraduate applications.
San Diego State University continues to be one of the most sought-after colleges in the nation, having received a record-setting 93,610 undergraduate applications for fall 2018. The application period for fall 2018 closed on Nov. 30.“This robust interest in SDSU reflects the excellence of our academic and research programs and our national reputation.”
Continuing a decade-long application trend, SDSU set a new record for the number of prospective first-year and transfer students seeking admission to the historic campus.
Consistently ranked among the top 10 colleges with the most applications by U.S. News & World Report, this is the third year in a row that SDSU has received more than 80,000 undergraduate applications and the first time applications have topped 90,000. Applications have increased by more than 11 percent compared to last year, when 83,000 students applied.
SDSU also received more than 3,000 graduate applications for a total of more than 96,000 applications to date for fall 2018 admission. The final numbers are expected to increase as many of the university’s graduate programs are still accepting applications.
“This robust interest in SDSU reflects the excellence of our academic and research programs and our national reputation,” said SDSU President Sally Roush.
Among the undergraduate applicants are 68,475 first-time freshmen and 25,135 transfer students.
The most popular majors chosen by this cohort of first-time freshman applicants were biology, business, nursing and psychology.
Applicants can expect to receive acceptance notifications in March 2018.
SDSU is nationally recognized for academic excellence and for many outstanding programs that support student success. Most recently, U.S. News & World Report ranked SDSU No. 68 among public universities.
In the past year, Princeton Review added the university to its listing of best institutions for undergraduate education. SDSU has also been recognized as a top school for entrepreneurship, study abroad and for its support of military-affiliated students and LGBTQ students.
