Turning Artistic Talent into Entrepreneurial Success
SDSU's School of Art and Design is offering a series of lectures on entrepreneurship for art students.
San Diego State University’s School of Art and Design is offering a series of lectures from industry entrepreneurs to help students succeed.
Now in its second year, the Entrepreneurial Lecture Series (ESL) was conceived and has been generously funded by School of Art and Design alumnus Thom McElroy, co-founder of Volcom and a successful entrepreneur.
The lecture series brings to campus well-known industry leaders—who also happen to be artists and designers—to share their personal and professional stories of success, and provide guidance, advice and inspiration to undergraduate and graduate students.
This semester’s lineup includes:
- Gary Leivers, AIA RIBA, SDSU lecturer, award-winning architect and principal at DGA
- Nancy Escano, AIA, Principal and co-founder of DGA
- Reed Hansuld, artist-in-residence at SDSU, contemporary furniture maker and president of Liberty Labs Center for Furniture Craftsmanship
- Regina Kurtz, president of Alpha Design Group (Interior Design) and SDSU alumna.
“We feel very fortunate to have such an outstanding group of ELS speakers this year,” said Kotaro Nakamura, director of the School of Art and Design. “These industry leaders provide valuable real-world insight and guidance to our students. Our goal with ELS is to give students the inspiration, motivation and tools needed to help them become as successful at business as they are at their craft.”
