Faculty-in-Residence Positions Available
Faculty-in-Residence play an integral role in helping student residents grow and succeed academically.
FIR plays an integral role in helping student residents grow and succeed academically. As members of the SDSU Residential Education team, FIR provides a connection between in-classroom and out-of-classroom learning.
Faculty members in the FIR program serve as liaisons between students and faculty and promote the intellectual stimulation of students living on campus. Faculty teach one section of the one-unit University Seminar course and work closely with the Residential Education staff to promote a culture of academic success, diversity and community in the residence halls.
In addition to the personal satisfaction that comes from enriching students' academic experience, FIR participants are provided with on-campus housing within the residence halls and a meal plan to increase interactions with students. FIR appointments are for one year and have a maximum term of three years. While the FIR position is a volunteer position, the estimated annual equivalent value is approximately $15,000 to $18,000.
Applications are due by Friday, April 20, 2018, for full consideration. A cover letter stating the applicant's interest and qualifications for the position and full curriculum vitae are required. The cover letter should include examples of the candidate’s experiences mentoring and advising students outside of the classroom and anticipated contributions to the residence hall community.
