SDSU Athletics Announces Committed Aztecs Campaign
The initiative focuses on scholarship support and the continuing success of student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field.
San Diego State University Athletics has launched the Committed Aztecs Campaign with a focus on scholarship support and the continuing success of student-athletes in the classroom and on the field.
SDSU Director of Athletics John David Wicker introduced the comprehensive fundraising initiative on Thursday, May 24 and believes its success will maintain the excellence of SDSU Athletics.
"Growing our Aztec Club community is the key to meeting fundraising goals. With current student-athlete scholarship costs exceeding $9.6 million, scholarship support is a top priority for our athletic department," Wicker said.
"As we close out 2017-2018, a year in which we have seen impressive academic and athletic results across our 19 sports, I would remind every person connected to San Diego State Athletics that it's not too late to commit or recommit to a special show of support to our student-athletes."
The Committed Aztecs Campaign offers several ways to contribute, whether someone is a current Aztec Club member or not, including joining the Aztec Club on a monthly giving basis, increasing current donation amounts or by referring a new Aztec Club member.
Essential features of the campaign include scholarship support, specifically fulfilling every team's scholarship bill entailing resources like room, board, books and tuition. Through the Coryell Legacy program, SDSU will continue to grow endowment giving in order to support student-athlete scholarships in perpetuity, in addition to supporting scholarships, annual costs for basic needs like equipment, travel and recruiting.
"I'm extremely grateful for all the Aztec Club members' donations," SDSU football player Ron Smith said. "You help turn dreams into a reality both as an athlete and as a scholar. I guarantee a lot of student-athletes would not be in the same position if it were not for a scholarship. My experience as an Aztec has helped shaped my life in the right direction."
