SDSU Commencement Parking and Traffic
SDSU offers tips to make commencement commutes easier.
San Diego State University will host seven individual commencement ceremonies from May 11-13 at Viejas Arena. Campus visitors should be advised that the university expects Viejas Arena to reach its 12,414-person capacity during several ceremonies, and that the use of alternate modes of transportation to campus is encouraged.
Please allow at least 20 minutes to walk to the arena from any parking area east of College Avenue.
Directions
From east of College Avenue: Take I-8 west to College Avenue, then proceed south on College Avenue. At the first intersection of College Avenue and Alvarado Road, turn right (west) onto Canyon Crest Drive, then west to Parking Structure 12.
From south of Montezuma Road: Take Route 94 or another east/west freeway to College Avenue north, then turn left (west) onto Montezuma Road, then right (north) onto 55th Street to Parking Structure 7.
From west of College Avenue: Take I-8 to College Avenue south. At the first intersection of College Avenue and Alvarado Road, turn west (right) onto Canyon Crest Drive, then follow the road to Parking Structure 12.
Alternate Route: Take I-8 to Fairmount Avenue. Go east on Montezuma Road then turn left (north) onto 55th Street to Parking Structure 7.
Parking
SDSU will provide courtesy parking during commencement ceremonies at all main parking structures and lots. Please consult the campus map to locate parking areas.
Please do not park in residential neighborhoods or the South Campus Plaza parking structure at the corner of College Avenue and Lindo Paseo. We suggest carpooling and arriving on campus early.

Campus shuttle service
Limited courtesy shuttle service will be available from parking areas on the east side of campus to Viejas Arena. The number of shuttles will be limited, so if you are physically able, we ask you to walk to the ceremonies to reserve shuttle space for those who may have difficulty walking uphill.
Shuttle service will start one hour before each ceremony and will run every 15-20 minutes from the shuttle sites below:
Stop 1 – Lot 15
Stop 2 – Lot 16
Stop 3 – Lots 2 and 2B
Stop 4 – Lot 4A
Stop 5 – Lot 6B
Stop 6 – Viejas Arena

Trolley
Those commuting to and from campus during commencement weekend are asked to consider taking the trolley to avoid delays. For more information, please visit the MTS website.
