SDSU Alert: Water Main Break Affecting SDSU Cleared

SDSU is in communications with the City of San Diego and will have updates as they come.

Update: 8:00 a.m., Thursday, 9/13/2018 -- All Clear

The City of San Diego has reported that the water interruption at San Diego State University has been resolved.

All water to campus has been restored. Classes have resumed and campus remains under normal operations today, Thursday, Sept. 13

With the anticipated restoration of full water pressure to campus later this evening, this is a reminder that classes have resumed and SDSU does not anticipate any impacts to campus tomorrow.

Update: 3:49 p.m., Wednesday, 9/12/2018

The latest update from the City of San Diego is that San Diego State University will likely continue to see fluctuations in water pressure at least through 10 p.m., Sept. 12. 

Due to existing reports of low water pressure and continuing water interruptions, SDSU has posted portable restrooms with hand washing stations in various locations throughout campus as the water outage continues, and the possibility of further interruption to water. 

Portable restrooms are located at each of the following locations: Cuicacalli, the Fowler Athletics Center, Campanile Walkway near Hepner Hall, Centennial Walkway, South Campus Green, University Towers and Chapultepec. 

As communicated earlier, the City of San Diego’s Public Utilities reported a broken water main off campus and near SDSU, which has affected the campus and surrounding neighborhoods. The city has been working on repairs, which is ongoing. 

SDSU is committed to the safety and health of students, faculty and staff and will continue to monitor the situation so that additional timely updates are sent as information becomes available.

Update: 2:17 p.m., Wednesday, 9/12/2018

While classes prior to 3:15 p.m. were cancelled today, Sept. 12, classes scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and beyond will resume. 

Please note that Aztec Market locations are open and serving prepackaged food while other campus eateries and restaurants such as Starbucks and Chipotle are closed.

The city has been working on repairs, which is ongoing. SDSU is committed to the safety and health of students, faculty and staff. The university is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide additional timely updates as they are immediately available. 

Update: 12:16 p.m., Wednesday, 9/12/2018

Each of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union, East Commons, West Commons buildings now have water, and restrooms are being opened at these locations. Residence halls now have water and restrooms are available for residents only.

As communicated earlier, San Diego State University classes are cancelled through 3:15 p.m. today, Sept. 12. An additional message will be sent later today about classes that are scheduled to start at 3:30 or later.

San Diego State University classes are cancelled through 3:15 p.m. today, Sept. 12. An additional message will be sent later today about classes that are scheduled to start at 3:30 or later.

This morning, the City of San Diego’s Public Utilities reported a broken water main off campus and near SDSU, which has affected the campus and surrounding neighborhoods. The city is working to fix the broken water main. 

Any research that may require the use of water, including safety showers and/or eye wash stations, should cease immediately.  

Campus will remain open at this time, however non-essential personnel may leave campus at any point. Be aware that due to traffic considerations, faculty and staff may consider using the trolley and also remaining on campus to mitigate traffic congestion.
