Aztecs Rock the Vote
Oct. 22 is the final day to register to vote, and Associated Students is hosting events on campus through Election Day.
Associated Students are encouraging San Diego State University students, faculty and staff to register before the Oct. 22 deadline and to also get educated about candidates and issues up for vote.
U.S. Census data indicates that only 23.1 percent of eligible voters aged 18 to 34 voted in the most recent midterm election, a record low since World War II.
“Many students do not realize the gravity of participating in our political system and the impact that it has on our day-to-day lives. The result of this is that young voices are not heard when selecting the officials that make decisions on our behalf as well as propositions that directly affect the way we live,” said Michael Wiafe, Associated Students’ vice president of external relations.
“Through Rock the Vote, we hope to inspire students to recognize that registration, education and voting are all very important aspects for students to be engaged in through Election Day.”
To encourage voter participation and education, Associated Students launched its annual Rock the Vote campaign in September. The campaign, which serves to provide education on the positions, candidates and propositions on the ballot, continues through Election Day on Nov. 6.
