SDSU’s Research Horizons series highlights early career faculty and their burgeoning research projects.

Most people know the importance of engaging in self-care, but many of us nevertheless neglect our emotional and physical well-being.

San Diego State University counseling and school psychology professor Arianne Miller’s research aims to identify and remove the obstacles that prevent people and communities from participating in the vital practices that promote health and well-being.

“My research looks at what people think and feel about how they take care of themselves, so we can better help them in self-care,” said Miller, whose became interested in self-care after a brain cancer diagnosis years ago.

Miller came to SDSU in 2014 after working as an instructor at the Harvard University School of Medicine, University of California, San Diego, and Bastyr University.
