University presidents from across the country have sent congratulatory letters in anticipation of Adela de la Torre’s inauguration as president of San Diego State University.

Arizona State University, the University of California, San Diego, Baylor University, Boise State University, James Madison University and the University of Michigan-Flint are among dozens of institutions whose leaders have written to congratulate de la Torre.

Her inauguration is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, at Viejas Arena on the SDSU campus. Members of the public are invited to attend and stay for the campus and community celebration to follow the ceremony.

Among the correspondence de la Torre received are messages from all four living former presidents of SDSU. Excerpts from their letters follow:

Sally Roush (2017-2018): “You have the honor and privilege of stewarding our proud university, which provides the opportunity for success to literally thousands of students each year.  Under your heartfelt leadership, those students will become accomplished citizens, contributing to the future good, as have so many thousands before them.”

Elliot Hirshman (2011-2017): “Your record of accomplishment at UC-Davis and your impressive career in higher education are a testament to the experience and expertise you bring to this special moment in the history of San Diego State. It has been a pleasure to see how you have embraced the richness and diversity of San Diego State, both as a local and a global institution in your first semester on campus.”

Stephen L. Weber (1996-2011): “We have had only a brief opportunity to meet, but I have watched from afar with respect and interest as you have assumed the mantle of SDSU’s presidency…I expect that you will lead San Diego State to even greater accomplishments, and in the process transform tens of thousands of lives. It means a great deal to me to know that SDSU is in good, strong and capable hands.”

Thomas B. Day (1978-1996): “Your years of leadership in higher education will serve you well as you take the helm of the “jewel” of the CSU system… Already I have been impressed with the attention you have given to both the main and Imperial Valley campuses. Their collective impact furthers the invaluable contributions San Diego State University provides for the region.”
