In Memoriam: Richard Riedman
Riedman helped establish SDSUs audiology program in the 1960s.
Riedman was born and raised in Long Beach, California. From his father’s family, he inherited a lifelong love of ranching and horses. He rode in the Rose Parade for many years alongside the Long Beach Mounted Police.
He received a master’s degree in speech pathology from the University of Redlands and then served in the Armed Forces for two years before continuing his education at the University of Pittsburgh.
After earning a Ph.D. in audiology in 1962, he joined what was then San Diego State College. He relocated to Oregon after retirement and served on medical teams traveling to Mexico and South America.
Riedman is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathi Hoffer; daughters Laura and Suzy; sons Richard and Tom by his first marriage to Ann Carson; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held in June.
