2019 Commencement Summary
The 2019 commencement ceremonies will take place May 16-19.
An estimated 10,300 San Diego State University degree candidates have the opportunity to participate in the university’s 2019 commencement weekend ceremonies.
SDSU will host seven separate ceremonies May 17-19 at Viejas Arena and one ceremony on May 16 at SDSU Imperial Valley. The Fowler College of Business will host the largest ceremony, honoring 1,857 degree candidates. The smallest, most intimate ceremony will be the College of Education, which will award an estimated 879 degrees.

Parking and traffic information
SDSU will provide courtesy parking during commencement ceremonies at all main parking structures and lots. Please consult the campus map to locate parking areas. Campus visitors should be advised that the university expects Viejas Arena to reach its 12,414-person capacity during several ceremonies. The use of alternate modes of transportation to campus is encouraged.
Honorary doctorates
SDSU will award a record four honorary degrees this year, recognizing individuals who have served the university, the San Diego community and the nation. During Commencement 2019 ceremonies in May, honorary degrees will be awarded to SDSU President Emeritus Sally Roush; Father Joe Carroll, an advocate for San Diego’s underserved communities; and Christopher (Kit) Sickels (‘60), a key leader of The Campaign for SDSU.
SDSU President Adela de la Torre will present a fourth honorary degree to Ellen Ochoa (‘80) in October when the retired astronaut will visit campus as a speaker in the 2019 President’s Lecture Series.
