SDSU to Host Regional High School Counselors and Students
CSU admissions are the focus of a systemwide gathering, hosted by SDSU at the San Diego Convention Center.
The conference, which will be followed by "CSU College Night" for local high school students, will have representatives on hand from all 23 CSU institutions.
The conference – the first of five being held throughout California this month – allows counselors to receive updates on systemwide academic policies and initiatives, and review the Cal State Apply admissions application system used by prospective new students.
“This conference brings together the many invested partners who are critical to student success”, said Matthew Hebert, director of student recruitment and school relations in SDSU Enrollment Services. “High school counselors, in particular, are tremendously important to a student’s preparation for higher education; these are the professionals on the front lines in the high schools who give their heart and soul to their students.”
The conference also will explore academic preparation, access for underrepresented and first generation students, and support programs for CSU-enrolled students. In addition, SDSU will present the annual Jonasson Endowment Award, established by retired staff member Frank Jonasson to recognize outstanding work in counseling.
CSU College Night
Following the conference, SDSU will host “CSU College Night” from 6-8 p.m. All regional high school students are welcome, and will have access to representatives from all 23 CSU campuses.“Being able to provide access for local students to all CSU representatives is really exciting,” said Hebert.
The event, located in Exhibit Hall 6AB, is free. The San Diego Convention Center, 111 W. Harbor Drive, can be reached by MTS Trolley; paid parking also is available at the site.
