Game Recap: No. 13 SDSU Beats Fresno State to Stay Undefeated (Jan. 1, 2020)

San Diego State University men's basketball, one of two undefeated NCAA Division I teams in the nation, continued its climb up the national rankings with a two-spot jump to No. 13 (780 points) in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll and to No. 12 (382 points) in the Coaches Poll after being ranked No. 15 and No. 14, respectively, last week. The Aztecs are ranked for the fourth consecutive week and remain the only team in the Mountain West Conference to appear in either poll.
SDSU’s No. 13 ranking in the AP Top 25 Poll is the program's highest since March 10, 2014 when it was ranked No. 8. This marks the 34th time SDSU has been ranked in the poll's top 15.   Overall, this is the 70th week the program has been ranked in the AP Top 25 and all have come since the start of the 2010-11 season. Those 70 weeks are the 23rd most for any school in the nation in that time frame.
At 13-0 and 2-0 in the Mountain West, the Aztecs are coming off a week in which they won their lone game, 73-57 over Cal Poly on Saturday, and completed an undefeated non-conference schedule for just the fourth time in program history. The other instances were 1926-27 (4-0), 1930-31 (3-0) and 2010-11 (15-0).
The 13-0 start is more than halfway to the program record for wins to open a season without a loss, which the 2010-11 team achieved at 20-0 on its way to the Mountain West regular-season and tournament championships and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
The team's current 13-game winning streak equals the second longest in program history, matching a 13-game run from Dec. 9, 1955, to Jan. 28, 1956.  The school record is a 20-game winning streak, which has been accomplished twice; from Nov. 13, 2010, to Jan. 26, 2011, and most recently from Nov. 13, 2013, to Feb. 11, 2014.
SDSU returns to Mountain West play to open the 2020 portion of its season with a home game against Fresno State University on Wednesday, Jan. 1, with tipoff set for noon. To purchase tickets to that game and the rest of the home schedule.
