Flynn wins player of week honors

SDSU junior guard Malachi Flynn, who led the Aztecs to two victories this week, has been named the final regular season Mountain West Men's Basketball Peak Player of the Week, the conference announced on Sunday.

Flynn averaged 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in SDSU victories over Colorado State (66-60) last Tuesday and at Nevada (83-76) on Saturday.

In Reno, Flynn exploded for a career-high 36 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-6 from three-point range and made all seven of his free throw attempts.

His 36 points are the most by an Aztec since Brandon Heath tallied 37 against UNLV on Jan. 15, 2005. He is the 36th player in program history to produce a 30-point game and his 36 points are the second most by an Aztec player this century.

Poll updates

SDSU remains at No. 5 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls for the second consecutive week following a school-record 28-1 regular season. SDSU’s 17-1 Mountain West record this season is the highest winning percentage of any team in conference history, eclipsing Utah (13-1) in 2004-05. It's also the best record in school history.
