Three Aztecs Earn All-America Honors
SDSU has had at least one All-American following every season since 1996.
San Diego State University water polo players Emily Bennett, Isabelle Hastings and Maddy Parenteau have been named All-Americans by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) for their performances during the shortened 2020 season. Each of the three earned an honorable mention designation.
Bennett, a junior utility and now two-time All-American after receiving the same honor last season, led the squad with 31 goals, 48 ejections drawn, and six field blocks. Her 20 assists tied for the most on the team. In addition, the Oakdale, California native was second in shots (65) and steals (29) and had a goal percentage of .477.
Hastings, a product of Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach, California, earned her first ACWPC All-America selection this year after finishing the season tied for the team lead in assists (20). She was third in goals (21) and steals (31), and fourth in shots (51). The senior utility had a .412 goal percentage, drew eight ejections and had one field block.
Parenteau, a senior driver, led the Aztecs with 34 steals. The Lake Forest, California, native ranked second on the squad in ejections drawn (30), third in shots (62), tied for third in assists (14) and was fourth in goals (20). In addition, she had two field blocks and a .323 goal percentage. This is her first ACWPC All-America honor.
Bennett's 12 multi-goal games were a team high as were her six multi-assist games. She recorded eight multi-steal games and two hat tricks, second and third most on the team, respectively.
Hastings and Parenteau each had five multi-goal games, which ranked third on the team. Hastings' three hat tricks were the second most for an Aztec this season as were her five multi-assists games and she had six multi-steal efforts, third highest on the team. Parenteau finished the campaign tied for fourth on the team with one hat trick and had three multi-assist games, tied for third among the 2020 Aztecs.
SDSU has had at least one All-American following every season since 1996 and its three honors in 2020 equal the second most in a season in the same time frame.
