Aztecs Set School Record GPA for Spring Semester
This year, 15 of 19 teams set program records for team GPA in a semester.
San Diego State University student-athletes recorded a school record 3.36 combined grade point average (GPA) in the spring 2020 semester and saw 15 of 19 teams set program records for team GPA in a semester this year.
"The record breaking cumulative GPA is a testament to the hard work and resilience of our student-athletes who were faced with an unprecedented shift to a virtual classroom midstream," Bobby Smitheran, SDSU's Senior Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, said. "Our student-athletes were faced with numerous challenges and their academic performance speaks volumes to their character and work ethic. I'm especially proud of the coaching staff and the Student-Athlete Academic Support Services team who rallied around our student-athletes and adjusted our academic resources to a virtual platform to maintain the quality of academic support our student-athletes are accustomed to."
The SDSU cross country team had the highest team GPA in the spring 2020 semester, finishing with an impressive 3.64. The rowing team had the second-highest team GPA, recording a 3.62.
The men's tennis team finished with a 3.57 team GPA, the highest among SDSU's men's programs.
Other teams that set program records for team GPA in a semester this year include men's basketball, football, men's golf, women's basketball, women's golf, lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, indoor and outdoor track, swimming and water polo.
