“A primary goal of this newly imagined mission and vision for SDSU Global Campus is to extend SDSU, without boundaries, across our binational region, the state, and the world.”

In keeping with its stated mission of extending the academic excellence of San Diego State University beyond physical borders to students around the world, SDSU Global Campus is adding new academic programs to its growing roster of online courses.

The new SDSU Global Campus programs, which include Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees as well as degree completion programs in a wide range of areas of study, are intended to give students the ability to achieve their personal and professional goals wherever they may be located.

“For more than 122 years San Diego State University has been at the forefront of transforming lives through the power of education. Our vision to serve an excellent and diverse student population has been constant, as well as our commitment to remain at the cutting edge of innovation — adapting and improving new programs that speak to the needs of today's students, for tomorrow’s careers,” said SDSU President Adela de la Torre. “With our re-imagined SDSU Global Campus, we are expanding opportunities to more students and aiming to exponentially increase our contribution of educated leaders, teachers, engineers, scientists, artists, and more — locally and around the globe.”

De la Torre announced this month that the university's five-year strategic plan, "We Rise We Defy: Transcending Borders, Transforming Lives," is now underway. A major component of the plan is to expand the university's global impact and educational access in person and online, among other priorities.

SDSU Provost Salvador Hector Ochoa and SDSU Global Campus Dean Radhika Seshan said SDSU Global Campus will provide programs offered in non-traditional ways, including on-site, micro-site, and online learning options.

“A primary goal of this newly imagined mission and vision for SDSU Global Campus is to extend SDSU, without boundaries, across our binational region, the state, and the world,” Ochoa said.

An important aspect of the university’s approach is expanding access to higher education. “Such offerings will give diverse learners the flexibility to benefit from the academic excellence offered by SDSU and access to the community of aspiring professionals,” Seshan said.

Also in the coming months, SDSU Global Campus will be implementing a comprehensive rebranding plan, launched this summer, with a newly redesigned website coming in the fall. With a contemporary look and feel, the site design will allow users to quickly identify the resources they need. The new website will be more streamlined and student focused, with an improved user experience that makes it easier for current and prospective SDSU Global Campus students to learn about and enroll in programs, highlighting outcomes and contact points for each area.

New Spring 2021 Programs

The following online programs are now open for enrollment for the spring 2021 term:

Most of these programs are online or hybrid versions of programs that SDSU already offers on-campus, with the exception of the master’s in Teacher Leadership Program, which is a new program that is also accepting its inaugural on-campus cohort this fall.

Additionally, both the online Bachelor’s Degree Completion in Communication and the hybrid Bachelor’s Degree Completion in Child Development will be available via a microsite partnership with local community colleges.

SDSU Global Campus microsite partnerships are designed to help San Diego’s local community college students earn a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University by taking upper-division courses at SDSU without sacrificing relationships with their own college campuses. Students will also benefit from additional services including advising, guided discussions, and other SDSU-provided support services based out of their community colleges.
Currently, SDSU Global Campus offers microsite programs in five different subjects: Child Development, Communication, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, and American Indian Studies.

Distance learning programs from SDSU Global Campus are designed by tenured or tenure-track faculty whose academic departments also offer the on-campus programs.

“As a result, our students will benefit from high quality academic content and rigor in every program,” Seshan said.

Upon completion of their program, graduates of SDSU Global Campus programs will be awarded a degree from SDSU. The diploma and transcript will not distinguish that the program was completed online.

The application period is currently open.
