SDSU Maintains Top College Placement by The Princeton Review
The Princeton Review acknowledged SDSUs affordability, academic offerings and quality student experience.
San Diego State University remains one of the nation’s top colleges in the new edition of “The Best 386 Colleges,” a guidebook published by The Princeton Review.
The 2021 edition, released Tuesday, highlights — over consecutive years — SDSU for offering a quality, affordable education, with a diverse range of majors and minors, and accessible professors. SDSU also rates high for quality of life.
“Being recognized for the diversity and overall success of our students is a great point of pride,” said J. Luke Wood, SDSU’s vice president for student affairs and campus diversity.
“The year-to-year acknowledgement from The Princeton Review represents our solid commitment to student access and student achievement,” Wood said. “And this is an important year for our campus with the launch of our new strategic plan forthcoming. Our five-year plan establishes a clear path forward for the SDSU community to provide an even richer experience for all of our students.”
The 880-page reference guide is aimed at students applying for entry into colleges and universities in fall 2021. Its unranked list is based on surveys of 143,000 students and their feedback on issues that include academics, administration, campus life, and financial aid. Survey respondents said “Students love San Diego” and appreciate the university’s recreation facilities, according to The Princeton Review.
The publication noted 89% of SDSU’s freshmen return as sophomores and 74% of students graduate within six years. The profile also speaks to SDSU’s diverse student population, noting that more than 100 countries are represented in the student body.

SDSU is nationally recognized for its study abroad initiatives, veterans’ programs and support of LGBTQIA+ students, as well as its powerhouse Division I Athletics Program. Students have access to more than 350 student clubs and organizations, and an inclusive environment with a diverse range of programs and offerings.
SDSU is also recognized across the country for academic excellence, and was ranked No. 68 among public universities in U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 ranking of America’s Best Colleges. The university has also received high ratings for “best value” from both The Princeton Review and Money magazine.
