SDSU Again Named a Best College by The Princeton Review
The company highlighted the universitys academic offerings, quality of life and green rating.
San Diego State University was again named one of the nation’s top colleges in an annual guidebook published by The Princeton Review and based on surveys of students attending the universities.
The 2022 edition, “The Best 387 Colleges,” gives SDSU high scores for quality of life and as a green college, and also recognizes SDSU as No. 38 in a previously announced list of “Best Value” colleges.
“We are gratified to continue seeing this acknowledgement from The Princeton Review, especially since it reflects opinion from those who are best suited to evaluate our quality: our own students,” said SDSU President Adela de la Torre. “Our strategic plan places students at our core, a commitment supported by every member of our one SDSU community.”
The Princeton Review, a New York City-based college admissions services, test preparation and tutoring company, has featured SDSU in its best colleges guidebook since at least 2018.
Student surveys submitted from SDSU praised professors who are “dedicated and eager to teach,” and “bring life to every lecture.” Others described a student body with a “diverse community of students who are as laid-back as they are hard-working,” as well as “very accepting of one another and open minded.”
The publication also noted 89% of SDSU’s first-year students return as sophomores and 78% of students graduate within six years. The profile also speaks to SDSU’s diverse student population, noting 106 countries are represented in the student body.
The 880-page reference guide is aimed at students applying for entry into colleges and universities in fall 2022. Its unranked list is based on surveys of 154,000 mostly off-campus students last year, and their feedback on issues that include academics, administration, campus life, and financial aid.

The publication follows other accolades for SDSU, including Campus Pride Index’s Best of the Best Colleges and Universities for its support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students. In 2020, U.S. News & World Report ranked SDSU No. 65 among public universities, and in March its graduate-program rankings listed SDSU’s part-time MBA program No. 53, the College of Education No. 55, and the College of Engineering aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical program No. 56.
