Welcome Back, In Person
After 18 months, SDSU has welcomed back the majority of students, faculty and staff for a predominately in-person fall.
The first day of instruction in fall 2021 comes after months of planning for campus repopulation, driven by a multi-level approach in support of a safer and healthier campus environment.
More than 33,000 SDSU students have submitted proof of vaccination for COVID-19, along with the majority of faculty and staff. About 2 percent of the campus population is approved for exceptions and will test for infection regularly.
“After so many months apart, our long-held traditions and the togetherness that brings life to our campus, has returned,” SDSU President Adela de la Torre said in a shared welcome back message with other campus leaders. “We are enthusiastic about the range of opportunities for connection that are filling up our calendars once again.”
Other strategies in place include an updated facial covering policy, which requires facial coverings in nearly all indoor spaces, including all instructional spaces, regardless of vaccination status.
SDSU continues to offer on-campus access to COVID-19 vaccine and testing for all students and employees through Student Health Services. Each of the three COVID-19 vaccines in distribution in the U.S. are available. And through an ongoing partnership with the County of San Diego, COVID-19 testing is available at the Parma Payne Goodall Center. SDSU will also be placing vending machines with easy-to-self-administer COVID-19 tests at San Diego and SDSU Imperial Valley campus locations.
The university has also improved ventilation in all buildings throughout campus and begun regular wastewater testing in residence halls, a strategy developed to identify new COVID-19 cases, allowing university team members to intervene to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
As a reminder, the university asks all to continue to take everyday precautions, as follows:
- If you are sick, do not come to campus for classes or work.
- Adhere to the existing public health guidelines and policies. Follow the university’s updated facial covering policy and general prevention guidance to protect yourself and others.
- Reach out to support teams as soon as you need help. Many support services are available to students, faculty and staff.
