Aztecs Move Up a Notch in AP Top 25 Poll
SDSU is among just 13 undefeated college football teams for the season.
The San Diego State University Aztecs moved up one place and are ranked 24th in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll released Sunday, one day after a 31-7 win over the University of New Mexico Lobos in their Mountain West opener. SDSU (5-0) is now one of only 13 undefeated teams left in FBS play.
SDSU received 176 votes in the new poll, up from 111 the previous week. The team also made its season debut in the AFCA Coaches Poll at No. 24 with 156 points.
SDSU is off to a 5-0 start for the second time since 2017.
Saturday’s win at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson came behind a strong running game and a stellar defensive effort. The Aztecs gained 203 rushing yards and held the Lobos scoreless on offense..
Greg Bell rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown, while Jordon Brookshire ran for 45 yards and two additional scores, helping SDSU capture its eighth straight victory against New Mexico.
The Aztecs return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday at San José State.
