To more easily connect SDSU’s two campus locations in San Diego and Imperial Valley and to create more collaborative activities around research, academic and student engagement, a new pilot service has launched to operate three days each week.

The pilot shuttle program includes morning and evening service on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

“As part of our strategic planning program, we consistently heard from students, faculty and staff at both locations that there has been a deep and persistent need to more closely link our locations,” said SDSU President Adela de la Torre

“This service is an important connector, especially as we already have collaborative work across both locations along with SDSU Imperial Valley students attending courses and events in San Diego,” de la Torre said. “This pilot initiative is yet another way our strategic plan[BROKEN LINK] — and the many creative solutions our students, faculty and staff have put forth — is resulting in new and innovative ways to help improve the ways in which we connect, collaborate and solve problems.”

The pilot shuttle has a pick-up and drop-off location on Hardy Avenue at Campus Green at SDSU and at the SDSU Imperial Valley parking lot. The service operates at no cost to students, faculty and staff based on the following schedule:

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: The shuttle leaves SDSU at 6:30 a.m., arriving at the SDSU Imperial Valley at 8:30 a.m. The shuttle then leaves SDSU Imperial Valley at 8:45 a.m., returning to SDSU at 10:45 a.m.
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: The shuttle leaves SDSU at 6 p.m. arriving at SDSU Imperial Valley at 8 p.m. The shuttle then leaves SDSU Imperial Valley at 8:15 p.m., returning to SDSU at 10:15 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: A shuttle also leaves SDSU at 6:45 p.m., arriving at Imperial Valley at 8:45 p.m. The shuttle then leaves SDSU Imperial Valley at 9 p.m., returning to SDSU at 11 p.m.

The shuttles seat up to 12 passengers each, including an ADA-compliant seat. As the shuttle will pass through the Pine Valley U.S. Border Patrol Station, students, faculty and staff should have their identification ready to present while taking the shuttle.

Registration is required to use the shuttle by completing the SDSU Shuttle Reservation Form. A 24-hour reservation is required.

“The shuttle is part of an ongoing effort to add services and improve opportunities for SDSU Imperial Valley students, and to make it easier for us to travel between the two campus locations,” said Mark Wheeler, SDSU Imperial Valley’s interim dean. “We are so excited about this offering, and the new connections and collaborations it will allow us to generate between San Diego and Imperial Valley.”
