Aztecs Up, Up and Away in CFP Rankings
SDSU rose to No. 19 ahead of this weekends game against Nevada.
San Diego State University vaulted three notches in the third College Football Playoff (CFP) Selection Committee rankings released Tuesday, taking the No. 19 spot.
The climb follows a 23-21 homecoming win over Nevada at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday.
The Aztecs are 9-1, placing them at the top of the Mountain West Conference West standings and matching their best 10-game start since their first year of Division I football in 1969. SDSU has a pair of wins over Pac-12 programs in No. 23 Utah and Arizona with its only loss coming Oct. 30 to Fresno State.
The Aztecs, who are ranked 23rd in both the AP and coaches poll, play UNLV in Las Vegas at 8:30 p.m. PT Friday, to be carried on CBS Sports Network.
The CFP rankings determine the seeds for the college football playoff semifinals, to be played this season on Dec. 31 at the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl games. The national championship game follows on Jan. 10, 2022.
