Two-Two Much: SDSU Rises in CFP Rankings
Ahead of a critical homecoming match against Nevada, the Aztecs climbed two notches in the playoff selection committees list.
San Diego State University moved up to No. 22 in the second College Football Playoff (CFP) Selection Committee Rankings released Tuesday night, up two spots from the initial rankings of the season a week earlier.
The Aztecs are 8-1, matching their best nine-game start in the last 51 seasons. SDSU has a pair of wins over Pac-12 programs in No. 24 Utah and Arizona with its only loss coming Oct. 30 from Fresno State. The new rankings follow a 17-10 win at Hawai’i on Nov. 6.
The No. 24 ranking last week was the Aztecs’ first-ever appearance in the CFP committee’s rankings. The CFP rankings determine the seeds for the college football playoff semifinals, to be played this season on Dec. 31 at the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl games. The national championship game follows on Jan. 10, 2022.
SDSU welcomes Nevada for Homecoming at 7:30 p.m. PST Saturday, Nov. 13, at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The winner will top the Mountain West Conference West standings; the two teams currently share the lead with 4-1 records.
