Another team has gameplay plans at Snapdragon Stadium when the venue opens in September. Recently announced, San Diego Wave Fútbol Club will call the SDSU Mission Valley stadium its permanent home.

"Snapdragon Stadium provides elite facilities for our players and premium amenities for our fans,” said Wave FC President Jill Ellis. “From day one, we set out to deliver an unrivaled game day experience for fans that matches the energy and quality of soccer on the field."

The announcement with Wave FC means that SDSU will “bring the best women’s soccer in the world to our brand new, state-of-the-art stadium,” said SDSU Athletic Director JD Wicker.

The Wave FC news follows earlier announcements that multiple SDSU teams will practice and compete at Snapdragon Stadium: women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, men’s soccer and football teams.

“Our mission from day one was to bring phenomenal new professional partners to San Diego to play in a stadium designed for the entire San Diego community,” Wicker said. “This is the signature athletics, entertainment and community venue for our region, and many more opportunities are coming to SDSU’s women and men student-athletes through the ongoing development of SDSU Mission Valley.”

The investment opportunities Snapdragon Stadium will unlock will generate additional, expanded financial support for SDSU Athletics and its 18 women’s and men’s NCAA Division I athletics teams.

“SDSU has a proud and well-established legacy of offering competitive opportunities to women and men who go on to become athletic champions and, after graduating, leaders in their respective sports and fields of study,” Wicker said. “It is our mission and purpose to offer competitive opportunities for women and men on our campus and to also support the professional athletics in our San Diego region. Both have community benefits and positive community impact.”
