San Diego State moved up one spot and is 24th in the latest D1Softball rankings, which were released Monday on D1softball.com. The Aztecs (27-11, 11-1 MW) are coming off a series victory at UNLV, which was picked to win the Mountain West along with SDSU.
San Diego State is just ahead of No. 25 Stanford, while No. 21 Michigan, No. 22 Auburn and No. 23 Notre Dame are also near the Aztecs. SDSU is 1-2 against teams in the current D1Softball rankings with a 7-5 win over current No. 15 Washington, and a pair of one-run losses to No. 7 Northwestern (7-6 in eight innings) and No. 25 Stanford (1-0). Oklahoma remains atop the rankings with a 36-0 record, while Alabama, Virginia Tech, Florida Sate and UCLA round out the top 5.
San Diego State and No. 18 UCF are the only two Group of 5 teams in the rankings.
The Aztecs had a 12-game winning streak snapped in an 8-7 loss to the Rebels (28-9, 6-3 MW) on Saturday night, but came back to win, 7-6, in 11 innings on Sunday to clinch the series. The 12-game winning streak was the fifth longest in program history and at the time tied for the sixth longest in the country.
SDSU welcomes Boise State (27-8, 6-3 MW) to SDSU Softball Stadium this weekend for games at 6 p.m. PT Thursday, 6 p.m. PT Friday and noon PT Saturday.
