Softball: Aztecs Draw LSU at NCAA Tempe Regional
SDSU is the only team to make the NCAA tournament from the Mountain West.
San Diego State will play No. 20/18 LSU in the NCAA Tempe Regional, the NCAA announced Sunday. It is 12th NCAA tournament bid for the Aztecs (37-14) but first since the 2015 season.
SDSU, which earned an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the Mountain West regular-season title with a 20-4 record, will play the Tigers (34-21) at 5 p.m. PT Friday in Tempe, Arizona, on the campus of No. 8/4 Arizona State (39-9), the tournament's No. 8 overall seed. Cal State Fullerton (36-20) is the other team in the double-elimination regional.
The entire NCAA Tempe Regional will be broadcast live on ESPN Networks.
San Diego State, which also made the tournament in 2001, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, is 16-22 all-time in the NCAA championships.
The Aztecs are playing in Tempe for the fifth time out of their 12 appearances in a NCAA regional (also 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014), owning a 4-8 record at Farrington Stadium.
