San Diego State University will mark Veterans Day 2022 with a wreath-laying ceremony during Homecoming weekend, and a panel discussion on the Vietnam War.

Here is some additional information on each program:

War Memorial

This year marks the 26th anniversary of the War Memorial wreath-laying ceremony, which takes place each year during Homecoming Week to honor SDSU veteran alumni who have died in service to their country during the nation’s military conflicts.

The ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the base of the monument on Aztec Green.

CDR James Bedinger ('76), a POW during the Vietnam War, will deliver a keynote address. Members of the SDSU Student Veterans Organization will read the names listed on the War Memorial.

Why Vietnam Still Matters

The Center for War and Society at the College of Arts and Letters is assembling a panel of history and military scholars to discuss the enduring and global consequences of the Vietnam War nearly 50 years after it came to an end.

The program is scheduled for 12:30-1:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, in Montezuma Hall at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union.

Participating in the panel are:

  • Robert Brigham, Shirley Ecker Boskey Professor of History and International Relations, Vassar
  • Kara Dixon Vuic, LCpl. Benjamin W. Schmidt Professor of War, Conflict, and Society in 20th- Century America, Texas Christian University
  • David Kieran, Colonel Richard R. Hallock Distinguished Chair in Military History, Columbus State University
