Owning at least a share of the Mountain West regular-season crown, after its 73-71 victory at New Mexico last Saturday, the San Diego State men's basketball team jumped four spots in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll to No. 18 and one sport in the USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 19. The Aztecs totaled 552 points in the AP poll, garnered 251 in the Coaches poll, and remains the only program in the conference to be ranked in either.

Lamont Butler's 3-pointer at the buzzer gave No. 22 San Diego State a 73-71 win over New Mexico on Saturday night.

''I got the ball with around 5 seconds to go,'' Butler said. ''I got to half court and I fumbled it a little bit. As soon as I looked up, there were 2 seconds left and I knew I had to let it go. I'm just happy the shot went in.''

Darrion Trammell scored 18 points to lead the Aztecs, while Matt Bradley added 11 as San Diego State won a sixth straight.

With its appearance in this week's AP poll, San Diego State is ranked for the 99th week since the start of the 2010-11 season, more than any other program in the state of California and the 18th most in the nation in that time frame.

San Diego State is ranked No. 18 for the sixth time in school history. SDSU has appeared in every position in the AP poll between No. 4 and No. 25, except for No. 12.

Today's ranking, released on February 27, marks the seventh time SDSU has appeared in the AP Top 25 on this date.
