SDSU Social Calendar: Women's History Month Events

The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) collaborates with different on- and off-campus organizations to present SDSU’s 2023 Women’s History Month programming. Here is a list of events being hosted by the WRC and other campus organizations.  

SDSU Women In Sports Body Meeting 

At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, SDSU Women in Sports will be having their general body meeting in the Metztli Suite on the second floor of the student union. Paige Diggs, the Associate Athletic Director of DEI, will be the guest speaker for this week’s meeting. Check out the SDSU Women in Sports Instagram page for more information.

Misogynior and Digital Resistance: A Talk with Dr. Moya Bailey

Dr. Moya Bailey, co-author of #HashtagActivism: Networks of Race and Gender, will join SDSU, UCSD, and USD students and faculty via Zoom from 1-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8. Bailey will discuss the intersections between social media, storytelling, and social justice. 

Raise the Vibration 

Raise the Vibration, presented by V-Day SDSU, is an entirely student-led fundraiser performance. All the proceeds will go to social change for women and girls in the region. From 7-9 p.m. between Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 11, the show will be in the Aztec Student Union Theatre. Raise the Vibration is also sponsored by Tijuana Home Build, the Geography Club, and the Sailing Club. 

Queer Femme Healing Circle 

The Queer Femme Community Circle is a safe space to be in community with other femme identifying folks from 2-3 p.m. on Monday March 13 in the Pride Center Library. This meeting will focus on the queer femme experience and self care. 

Rebound: Film Screening and Panel

Everyone in the SDSU community has been invited to the debut screening of Rebound at SDSU, a film exploring the weight of motherhood, trauma, and incarceration as two women find healing and hope through sisterhood, service, and education. From 6-9 p.m. on Monday, March 13 both the film screening and panel with the director, co-director, and participants in the Student Union Theatre. This event is co-sponsored by the WRC, School of Public Affairs, Project Rebound Student Alliance, and KPBS.

Harvesting Dreams: Defying the Odds to Achieve the American Dream

From 3-4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, SDSU alumna Erica Alfaro will be returning to campus in the Mata'yuum Suite, Student Union. Alfaro is an award-winning author, keynote speaker, and education advocate. Her story became known in 2019 when her graduation pictures went viral and made headlines around the world. Alfaro's captivating and personal story of overcoming obstacles and accomplishing the near impossible has earned her recognition within Latinx and Undocumented communities. This event is co-sponsored by the Undocumented Resource Center, Latinx Resource Center, and WRC.

A Talk with Dr. Jenny T. Wang, Author of Permission to Come Home

Directly following the previous events, Dr. Jenny T. Wang will speak to students from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14 in Templo Mayor, Student Union. The recent tragedies in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay not only devastated the AAPI community, but also revealed the anxiety and vulnerability Asian Americans continue to face. Permission to Come Home by Dr. Jenny T. Wang takes Asian Americans on an empowering journey toward reclaiming their mental health. Join us for an intimate discussion with Dr. Wang as she offers permission to return closer to home, a place of acceptance, belonging, healing, and freedom. This event is sponsored by AAPI(phany).

Let's Talk Reproductive Options with URGE

United for Reproductive & Gender Equity (URGE) and the Women’s Resource Center will be speaking about medical abortion access on campus from 1-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21 in Mata'yuum Suite, Conrad Prebys Student Union. 

Latinas Lideres in STEAM

SDSU Imperial Valley Campus will be hosting an art gallery of Latinas in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) fields, highlighting influential Latinas in STEAM. Taking place from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, the gallery will also feature a roundtable discussion and free transportation to and from SDSU’s main campus and Imperial Valley will be provided to those who register in advance.
