SDSU Social Calendar: April Events You Can't Miss!

As students continue to return to the campus after spring break, SDSU has plenty of events in April to welcome them back.

Celebrate Aztec Men's Basketball's Historic Season

Celebrate the men's basketball team's historic run to the NCAA national championship game at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday, April 8. Parking opens at 4:30 p.m., with the stadium gates open at 6 p.m. A red carpet arrival for the team is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., followed by a team walk into the stadium beginning at the roundabout in the southeast side of the parking lots and continuing inside the east gate. The program is officially set to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature speeches from members of the Aztec men’s basketball team, including head men’s basketball coach Brian Dutcher and student-athletes, along with dignitaries from San Diego State and the city and county of San Diego.

Admission and parking are free. Tickets must be claimed in advance at GoAztecs.com/MBBcelebration. Limit 6 per account.

Graduation Cap Decorating

From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, come decorate a graduation cap in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union ahead of graduation and other end of the semester activities, free of charge.

Dispel the Myth Part III

Join the Center for Intercultural Relations (CIR) and the Middle Eastern North African (MENA) from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, for a discussion of the lived experiences of members of the SWANA communities. Topics, led by guest speaker Dr. Farid Abdel-Nour, will include discussing stigmas and the importance of challenging stigmatized narratives.

Taste of Little Italy

Little Italy is coming to SDSU from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, in the courtyard of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. Along with local vendors and performers, students will be able to explore San Diego from the comfort of campus. 

Big Band Breakfast

From 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, students can enjoy free breakfast and a live jazz band in the courtyard of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union to start their day.

Take a Break: Mosaic Tile Art

From 2-3 p.m. on Monday, April 17 in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Aztlan Suite (230A), make colorful mosaic coasters and learn about mosaic art history to celebrate SWANA/MENA Heritage Month. Materials are provided, but you must RSVP by Monday, April 10.

Creative Arts Festival

The SDSU Homecoming Royals will host a Creative Arts Festival from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 17 in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union, where students can present and perform various art forms to the larger SDSU community.

Yalla Let's Chat! Cultural Appropriation and Cultural Appreciation

From 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, join the discussion on cultural appropriation and ways to celebrate SWANA culture. Yalla! Let's Chat is a student-led group focused on the Southwest Asian & North African/Middle Eastern/Arab student experience. This event will be in the SWANA Lounge of the Center for Intercultural Relations.

7th Annual Stroll Off

Starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, in parking structure number 4, the men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Lambda Iota Chapter will host the annual Showtime Sigmas Stroll Off Competition, where members from multiple organizations will try to win the grand prize.

A Convo with Comedian Kareem Rahma

Between 5-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 comedian, screenwriter, and entrepreneur Kareem Rahma will be in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Park Boulevard Room. The event celebrates SWANA Heritage Month through comedy and storytelling. Rahma will share his experience as a first-generation Egyptian, and speak about his viral TikTok series on taxi drivers, "Keep the Meter Running". Please RSVP by Thursday, April 20.
