Softball: SDSU Extends Win Streak with 13-0 Road Win Over Utah State
Mac Barbara leads the way with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs in Thursday's series opener.
The San Diego State University softball team flexed their offensive power and extended their win streak to seven games after Thursday’s six-inning run-rule win on the road against Utah State, 13-0.
Designated hitter Mac Barbara slugged two home runs (8) for the Aztecs and recorded a total of five RBIs in the game to lead the team’s offense. In the fourth inning, the sophmore drilled a two-out, two-run shot over centerfield to give the Aztecs a 7-0 lead, then hammered her second home run down left field for another pair of RBIs to put SDSU up 11-0 in the sixth inning.
Barbara has a streak of her own, having hit home runs in each of the last two games including Sunday’s game-winning, series-sweeping blast against San Jose State.
Right-handed juniors Allie Light, this week’s Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, and Cassidy West (Mission Bay High School) quieted the Aggies’ bats allowing four hits and five strikeouts combined. Light worked the first four innings and gave up four hits while West faced seven batters striking out three over the final two frames.
Thursday's 13-0 win was the team's second largest margin of victory this season. On March 5, the Aztecs' raced around the bases for 16 runs against Montana, the most by SDSU since beating Oklahoma State, 17-5, in six innings on Feb. 25, 2017.
The Aztecs (23-10) continue Mountain West play Friday and Saturday against the Aggies (11-16) in Logan, Utah. All games this weekend will air on the Mountain West Network.
