SDSU Social Calendar: Spooky Fun in October
October at San Diego State University gets spooktacular with events, activities, and haunted houses.
This October, San Diego State University students will be treated to a variety of events that will turn the campus a little more spooky than usual. From haunted houses, painting sessions, cooking classes, student art galleries and film festivals, SDSU will have a little bit of everything.
The month kicks off on Oct. 2 with the Tasty Tunes event, uniting students for a time filled with music, food and games.
As we journey further through this frightful month, the Aztec Nights organizers have many events in store for October, from Spooky Sweets and Late Night Eats to the Haunted Homecoming.
Beyond these activities, October’s social calendar is offering educational and career-building opportunities through STEM lectures, cooking classes and free headshots. Join us for some Tasty Tunes
4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Oct. 2
Student Union Courtyard
Stop by for live tunes, tasty food and arcade games. This will be a night filled with melodies and activities that you won't want to miss! The event will take place at the Student Union Courtyard from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Headshots and Hangouts
11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Oct. 3
Office of Graduate and Diversity
Looking to update your LinkedIn profile picture? Come to the Office for Graduate and Diversity on Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the Headshots and Hangouts events. Connect with other graduate students and bring your professional gear. Service will be received to the first 30 students along with refreshments and snacks.
Paint and Dip with Recovery
12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Oct 10.
Calpulli Building
Come make a boo-tiful painting! Join us at the Well-being and Health Promotion to paint and snack while you learn about how the group Recovery at State helps those in the recovery community. You can find them on Calpulli Building, 3rd Floor, Suite 3201, Oct. 10 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The Golden Galleria
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Oct. 12
Union Courtyard
Stop by and take a look at your local peers showcasing their talents in the Union Courtyard. Help participants gain exposure as an artist while they show their passion for art. Vote for your favorite pieces and encourage others to join. The Canon EOS Rebel, JBL Charge 4 Speaker and Deco Mini7 sketch pad will be the prizes awarded to the top three winners. This event will take place on Oct. 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
SDSU Go! Howl-O-Scream
6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Oct. 14
SeaWorld, CA
Come join us at SeaWorld, CA for a night of thrills and excitement. Participants will receive transportation to and from the party along with a ticket for entry into the event. We’ll be at the park from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Click here for more information.
CHEF Hands-On Cooking Class
2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 17
Calpulli, Basic Needs Center
Need to enhance your cooking skills? Join us on the third floor of the Calpulli, Basic Needs Center where we’ll be making a truffley cauliflower rice stir fry. Spots are limited and availability for the first 10 students is on a first come first serve basis. Participants will also receive a kitchen starter kit. This event will go from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. RSVP to claim your spot!
Women in STEM Lecture & Social
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Oct. 23
Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center
Come to hear the ecologist, Nalini Nadkarni, share her experience and expertise in her studies of cloud forests in the Costa Rican town of Monteverde. The Division of Research and Innovation's Annual Women in STEM Lecture and Social will host the event at the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center Fowler Family Ballroom, on Oct. 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This is a free event open to the public, but make sure to RSVP before Oct. 6!
Howling Halloween Film Festival

Performing Arts District: Main Stage Theater
SDSU’s School of Theater, Television and Film will host a selection of short horror films made by student filmmakers. The screening will take place on Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the SDSU Performing Arts District: Main Stage Theater. You can get your tickets, with a price of $10, at the SDSU´s Ticket Office page. It’ll be terror-ific!
Aztec Nights October Events
10 p.m. to 2 a.m., multiple dates
Will you be afraid to miss the fun? Aztec Night’s monthly events are not missing out on bringing some spooky mood to campus. Come get your trick or treat on Oct. 27 and 28, and don’t miss out on the Spooky Sweets & Late Night eats, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Take a break from studying and enjoy our weekly Monday Night Movies. We’ll be screening Hotel Transylvania, come to the Union Theater, Oct. 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Popcorn and other snacks will be provided.
