Career Readiness is Focus of First A.S. Career Advantage Event
With SDSU alumni industry leaders and networking opportunities, the event is designed to get students ready for their first jobs and careers.
Associated Students, in partnership with Career Services, is hosting the first-ever A.S. Career Advantage event to prepare students for their short- and long-term career goals.
“I have heard from many students that career readiness is very much top of mind and, in addition to what the university already offers, they want more offerings coming out of Associated Students,” said Tarek Morsy, Associated Students president, who will speak during the event. “The entire event was created to empower SDSU students so that they are more competitive as they pursue meaningful careers.”
The A.S. Career Advantage Kickoff, to also include remarks from SDSU President Adela de la Torre and several SDSU alumni, will be held on Friday, Nov. 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lee and Frank Goldberg Courtyard of Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. Food and beverages will be served.
During the event, students will have an opportunity to hear from and network with notable SDSU alumni. Students will also be able to take professional photos at no cost during the event.
“This collaboration is the first of many,” said Daniel Newell, executive director for Career Services. “We are excited to deploy our newly re-imagined career development model and our new student menu of services. We have several ideas in the queue to help connect students to internships and jobs.”
The event is a new initiative under Associated Students and will continue to expand in spring 2024 with a student-to-student peer mentor program, industry networking mixers, alumni speaker series, and funding for career development available to recognized student clubs and organizations.
“Through unique, tailored services, we will be providing students with direct ways to grow their career networks to meet their specific goals and needs now, and for their future,” Morsy said.
