SDSU Social Calendar: Rock the House, Open Mic Nights and More
Here a few events happening on and off campus you should know about.
This November, numerous groups at San Diego State University are hosting a variety of events to celebrate and get involved on campus, including SDSU’s 2023 Homecoming.
Like every year, the start of the month opens with altars to honor Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Campus events like Rock the House and Open Mic Night, are on tap. And, for some fun outside of the Student Union, SDSU Go! is providing free transportation and tickets to the Broadway Show Mamma Mia!
To provide space for conversations, SDSU is offering educational workshops for any type of topic you want to discuss. Creative Activism, Know Your Rights, and Intuitive Eating workshops are only some of the many conversations happening around campus. Choose your preferred topic and don't miss the chance to connect.
As we get towards the end of the day, students will find a few relaxing events at the Aztec Student Union Theater, such as Monday Night Movies.
And, all month long you can visit the Exhibition Holding Time, Tracing Light by Rachael Phillips.

Day of the Dead
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 2|
International Student Center Lounge
Join us to celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead.) The Mexican holiday is celebrated every Nov 2 and the International Student Center is not missing out on bringing the altar to our campus. Come to the ISC Lounge to honor death and remember our ancestors. You can bring your photo of a loved one and add it to the Ofrenda. Pan de muerto and coffee will be served!
Homecoming Kickoff Festival
8:30 a.m. to Noon, Nov. 4
SDSU Campus
Celebrate Homecoming 2023 with an epic Homecoming Kickoff Festival! Take one of the 125th Anniversary-themed campus self-guided tours. Enjoy games, live music, free swag, food and drinks for purchase. The first 500 people to check in will receive a free SDSU Homecoming belt bag! Also beginning at 10 a.m., University Historian Seth Mallios will be autographing copies of his new book Historic Walking Tours Of SDSU: Celebrating 125 Years With 12.5 Slightly Scholarly Strolls. Rock the House

Are you a fan of live tunes and rock music? Stop by the Montezuma Hall on Nov. 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. as we bring the House of Blues to you and Rock the House with live music, free food and mocktails. For more information, follow the Aztec Student Union Board on Instagram @aztecunion.
Creative Activism

Templo
One SDSU Community is hosting Creative Activism, a conversation focused on the creative work of Indigenous American activists. Cannupa Hanska Luger is one of the interdisciplinary artists who will join the conversation.
SDSU Go! Broadway Show: Mamma Mia!
5 - 11 p.m., Nov. 11
San Diego Civic Theater
Come with us to see the classic Broadway show Mamma Mia! Participants will receive transportation to and from the event along with a show ticket. This event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Monday Night Movies
6:30 p.m., Nov. 13
Aztec Student Union Theater
Get comfy and join us on Nov. 13 for SDSU’s Monday Night Movies feature Shrek! The movie will start at 6:30 p.m. and snacks will be provided as items last.
Open Mic Nights

Stop by the Union Courtyard for Open Mic Nights! Participate in comedic relief, spoken word and live music.
Know Your Rights Housing Workshop

Basic Needs Center
It's always beneficial to know how you can support and protect yourself while living on your own as a college student. Join us to learn more about Fair Housing laws, illegal housing practices, and landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities.
Savor the Season: Intuitive Eating Over The Holidays

Flagpole Near Hepner Hall
Feeling stressed about the start of the holidays with your usual diet? The Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is hosting an event to learn more about the techniques of Intuitive Eating. Intuitive Eating is an anti-diet approach to health + wellness that makes you the expert on your body's hunger signals. There will be a registered dietitian and free food samples!
Exhibition Holding Time, Tracing Light
Noon - 4 p.m., Nov. multiple dates
School of Art and Design University Art Gallery
The first San Diego Exhibition of artist Rachel Phillips, “Holding Time, Tracing Light.” The multisensory exhibition takes visitors on a journey from the 1600s to today. In collaboration with SDSU’s Special Collections and University Archives, the exhibition will include one-of-a-kind objects and artwork inspired by the artist.
Aztec Unity Project Noah Homes
3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., Nov. 30
8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Dec. 1
Glazer Center for Leadership & Service
Join the Center for Leadership & Service in helping Noah Homes set up their annual Enchanted Village. Aztec Unity Project is a two-day service learning project where on day one, students learn about the nonprofit organization, and on day two the students participate in a service project at the nonprofit organization. Both days are mandatory. Food and transportation on day two are provided. To register for the event and learn more about Aztec Unity on their website.
